In the news this evening, National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has been ambushed on his way to the 2nd rally of the day in Mbarara and majority of his campaign team arrested by police and army. In the commotion some journalists have been injured as police and army rained chaos on Bobi Wine and his team. Kampala Metropolitan police region which comprises of Kampala City, Mukono and Wakiso Districts has got a new police spokesperson in the new changes announced by the police Chief Abas Byakagaba. The new Spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan is Racheal Kawala who has been the spokesperson for Wamala region headquartered in Mityana. She replaces Patrick Onyango who has been the KMP spokesperson since 2018. In the changes, Patrick Onyango has been moved to the Community Policing Command to head publications. Commissioners of Parliament who were in the news in 2023 and the better part of 2024 for awarding themselves a whooping Shs1.7bn with former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga taking the lion’s share with Shs500m and the other three commissioner Esther Afoyochan, Prossy Akampurira and Solomon Silwany taking Shs400m each. Some 700 people have been killed in three days of election protests in Tanzania, the main opposition party said Friday, with protesters still on the streets in the midst of an internet blackout. “As we speak the figure for deaths in Dar (es Salaam) is around 350 and for Mwanza it is 200-plus. In a dramatic turn of police after a full month of successful campaigns in the different parts of the country, police has been thrown in the spotlight after it broke into a hotel where Bobi Wine and his team were sleeping in the mid of the night and started pepper spraying every room. President Museveni in August appointed Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo as the new Principal Judge becoming the first woman to hold such a position in the history of Uganda since Independence.
