The next ten days will be a defining moment for the 12th parliament as legislators continue taking oath even today at the steps of parliament. The date has already been set, 25th May is the day legislators will be voting for their speaker and Deputy.
Following a high stakes meeting that took place at State House as the NRM party positions itself and decide on it’s candidate, things seems to be taking another turn that might come as a shock to Ugandans who are eagerly waiting for the big story.
Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba on Tuesday shocked everyone when he rolled back the endorsement of Anita Among and her Deputy Tayebwa for re-election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker for the 12th parliament and instead directed his PLU affiliated Members of parliament who are largely NRM that they should support a candidate who will be presented to them by the president.
This message alone was enough to read between the lines that the fate of Anita Among might have been decided as outrage continues to dominate headlines over her flashy lifestyle at the expense of the tax payer and linked to corruption cartels with in parliament.
He has been the best Minister in our government for the past 5 years. I want to be the first to endorse him for Speaker of Parliament (2026-2031). God bless Hon.Oboth-Oboth! pic.twitter.com/Fz9sd72i8q

Muhoozi has now endorsed West Budama County South legislator also outgoing Minister of Defense and veteran affairs Jacob Oboth-Oboth as his candidate of choice for the 12th parliament. Muhoozi has also revealed that he has no problem with his ‘brother’ Thomas Tayebwa for the Deputy Speaker and he says that one is protected.
