On 21st August 2025, the Electoral Commission confirmed that 207 Ugandans had picked nomination papers to vie for the country’s top job in the general elections which will take place in January 2026. The incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was also among those who picked nomination papers saying he had some unfinished business and needs more five years. This would bring his grip to power to 45 years. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has this evening appointed a new Inspectorate of Government (IGG) after declining to renew the contract of outgoing IGG Betty Olive Namisango Kamya (BONK). Kamya was appointed IGG in November 2021 replacing Justice Irene Mulyagonja who moved to the Constitutional Court. Online bully Dean Lubowa Saava has been arrested and remanded to Luzira where he risks spending a total of 8 years. This will be the case if he loses and gets convicted for the three offences with which he was charged at the utilities and standards court based in Makindye on Thursday.
