Last week, the electoral Commission nominated 10 candidates for the 13th March By-election in Kawempe North to replace the fallen National Unity Platform legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya who died on 13th January this year.
FDC frontend musician Sadati Mukiibi alias Kalifah Aganaga, NRM fronted Nambi Faridah Kigongo, DP fronted Henry Kasacca Mubiru, NUP fronted city lawyer Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi while PPP fronted Ismael Musiitwa. The other independent candidates include Moses Nsereko, Muhammad Luswa Luwemba, Hanifah Karadi, Muhamood Mutazindwa and Late president Obote’s son Stanley Edward Maitum Engena.
On the first day of the nomination, NUP candidate faced the wrath of face masked JAT operatives who beat him and arrested him like a chicken thief. The chaos that was metted on Nalukoola and his supporters also caught in Top TV’s Miracle Ibrah who is currently admitted in hospital after being hit in the face by the JAT operatives who later fired live bullets to disperse the NUP supporters.
On the contrally, the second day of nomination moved on well. NRM candidate Faridah Nambi held processions to the nomination venue, she also went through several parts of Kawempe with her supporters uninterrupted and instead police was just creating way for them even when it needed to stop traffic floor.
The chaos of JAT has been condemned by many Ugandans including Arch Bishop of Kampala Diocese Paul Ssemwogerere who challenged the NRM government to abolish elections if they fear competition. The same issue reached the floor of parliament and was condemned by several MPS including speaker Anita Among.
The candidates started their campaigns and Bobi Wine joined Nalukoola’s campaign trail and these staged a mega rally at Kawempe Muslim Primary School play ground. NUP supporters who left their Kavule offices in peace met hell on the way as a combination of UPDF, Uganda Police and the tough JAT operatives reigned chaos on them and several went away with injuries.
In the videos making rounds on social media, JAT operatives beat up NUP supporters as they traveled to the venue. This has left Ugandans questioning the anger that these face covered JAT operatives use while meting wounds on Ugandans and seem every thing is okay.
These no nonsense JAT operatives who were only restrained by a UPDF lady who must have been their commander didn’t only beat people but also destroyed people’s cars during the rain chaos on NUP supporters and their leaders.

Attending a prayer session organized by journalists in Kampala, Army spokesperson Ag Maj Gen Felix Kulayigye denied knowledge of JAT, he even denied knowing anything to do with them and their operations but they were seen meting violence on Ugandans alongside police and UPDF.
Political analysts have revealed that the actions of security operatives especially JAT are already painting the exact picture and setting the mood for the 2026 general elections and opposition politicians will face it rough.
