Teachers from hard-to-reach areas have stormed the Mayuge district headquarters in protest of inconsistencies in their salary payments. The 50 teachers working in island communities and along landing sites say that they spend a lot of money on transport costs, and it is unfair for them to experience inconsistencies in their salary payments. The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has launched a probe into Nergi Solar Uganda Limited, a relatively new player in Uganda’s energy sector, over allegations of bribery, fraud, and collusion with individual government and military officials to secure a multimillion-dollar government contract. According to preliminary reports, CID investigators suspect that Nergi Solar bribed senior government figures to influence the award of a lucrative energy infrastructure project. The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has initiated internal processes to identify a flagbearer for the upcoming Kikuube District LCV Chairperson by-election, following the release of the electoral roadmap. The move comes just days after the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) announced plans to conduct party primaries for the same seat. Police in Wakiso District are hunting for the assailants who kidnapped and killed a 25-year-old tuk-tuk rider in Kakiri town after his family failed to pay a ransom of 5 million shillings to spare his life. The police in Hoima have arrested a man after he was found in possession of several dismantled car and motorcycle parts. The suspect has been identified as Lucky Mujukulu, a resident of Kiryatete cell, Hoima West division, in Hoima City. He was also found in possession of a suspected stolen Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UED 157N. Police in Busoga East on Monday confirmed the arrest of three men, whom they accuse of manufacturing and distributing fake dollars to unsuspecting victims. The suspects are currently detained at Iganga central police station, awaiting further investigations and prosecution. They are 29-year-old, Amisi Isooba, Cyrus Guule, 25 and Asuman Isooba, aged 19. The suspects were arrested from their hideout in Kisinze village, in Namungalwe town council, in Iganga district. Police in Kyenjojo District have arrested a 40-year-old man over the suspected murder and alleged cannibalism of a woman. According to a statement released by Vincent Twesige the Rwenzori West Police Spokesperson, the suspect identified as Richard Mwesige and curiously also known as Baby Nsolo (animal) was arrested on May 2nd from his home in Kihara Cell, Kyarusozi Town Council, following a tip-off from concerned residents. Six people have been confirmed dead and 14 critically injured following a deadly road crash along the busy Karuma-Packwach highway this Mondat morning. The crash involving a Nile Star bus and a trailer truck happened at about 1.00 am Monday at Lapok Mor cell in Purongo Town Council in Nwoya district. The bus was reportedly enroute to Kampala from Koboko district. Initial reports indicated three people had died on the spot following the crash.
