Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) were visitors at the Parliament of Uganda, not to prepare for the election of the speaker of parliament but they came and declared former Speaker Anita Among’s office as a crime scene and blocked any access to it and it’s environs. They mounted a serious search inside as it has been the case for the last few days.
Investigators from UPDF and Uganda police have since Saturday mounted search operations on former Speaker Anita Among’s residences. They started from her swanky bonking pad in Nakasero where the search lasted for 16 hours before launching a similar operation at her other residence in Kigo along Entebbe Road. In Kigo, they seized two of her expensive vehicles a range rover with customized number plate AAA3 and the brand new Rolls Royce registration number UA 426EH and delivered them to the police headquarters Naguru.
Now information coming out of the investigations so far indicate that sacks of money in local currency of Shs50,000 denomination, sacks of US Dollar as well as Euros all recovered from Anita Among’s residences so far searched in the operation which has now entered it’s fourth day.
It’s reported that with two residences so far searched, the same operations will extend to all her other residences in Ntinda, Kololo and her known country home Bukedea which is like a state house. The other items retrieved from the homes so far searched include CCTV footage, phones, laptops, computers, tablets, smart watches and a camera display television.
Detectives also harvested several documents including bank and company documents, cheques, land titles, cameras and Internet connection devices. Investigators now say all the retrieved item would be used as exhibits to process evidence on allegations of illicit wealth accumulation, money laundering, abuse of office and possible violations of Uganda’s Leadership Code Act against the embattled former Speaker Anita Among.
Anita Among rose through the ranks of authority rise fire but has fallen like ash ever since president Museveni invited her to a meeting where he openly told her he couldn’t risk another 5 years of her at the helm of parliament whose image has been tainted with corruption and misuse of government money.
