Police officers in the West Nile Sub-region have been urged to abstain from engaging in partisan politics as the election season intensifies.
Senior Superintendent of Police Latif Zaake, the West Nile Regional Police Commander, made these remarks while addressing local leaders, including police officers, at the Paidha Cultural Center Hall on Thursday 17 April, 2025.
The RPC is touring various police stations to engage police officers and communities on effective community policing strategies ahead of the 2026 general election.
He has completed visiting greater Nebbi district which comprises Pakwack, Nebbi and Zombo; as police officers we are non-partisan, and don’t be partisan, behave in a very professional way he alluded.”
“We are coming to a political season, our role is to ensure a very peaceful environment”. Zaake cautioned officers
The LCIII Chairperson of Paidha Town Council, Innocent Godfred Onega commended the RPC for his remarks urging police officers to portray fair treatment to all who will express interest in various political possessions in forthcoming general elections.
Onega’s comment, highlights the recent Kawempe North constituency by election which was marred by violence and brutal assault and flogging of journalists.
“Afande RDC and RPC we don’t have any party called opposition party, so when campaign period comes we don’t want to hear that some sections are being favored while others are being taken as rebels.” Onega warned

Meanwhile, the Resident District Commissioner of Zombo, Festus Ayikobua, encouraged residents to use the electoral period to choose capable leaders who can drive development.
”We shouldn’t also let this election be overtaken by people who are just going to cover space, begin organizing people who are of help in the community”. Ayikubua shared
He urged the people to ensure foster national unity and never to discriminate to drive forward social economic transformation.
In Zombo district, NRM candidates are now entangled in accusations involving security as the road map for their primaries was released by Secretary General Richard Dodwong.
Some of them are trading accusations on offices of the RDC and DISO for meddling in local politics, the accusation these offices denied terming it baseless and lacking substantial evidence.
The Electoral Commission Act of Uganda explicitly prohibits police officers from participating in partisan politics, mandating that they maintain law and order during elections.
Addressing senior journalists and editors, during convention at Mestil hotel in Kampala, the Chairman Electoral Commission Justice Simon Byabakama, emphasized the need for promoting unity and harmony during the electoral process ahead of forthcoming general election.
