News reaching our desk indicate that City Lawyer Eron Kiiza who was sentenced to 9 months by the General Court Martial on January 7th this year has finally been granted bail.
Eron Kiiza was dramatically arrested inside the Court Martial on 7th January when he had gone there to represent his clients Dr. Kiiza Besigye and Obed Kamulegeya. He was detained at the court only to be returnee for his sentence without even a charge sheet.

His sentencing attracted widespread condemnation of the excess powers and unprofessionalism exhibited that day in the general court martial whose powers to try civilians were trimmed by a Supreme Court Ruling on 31st January 2025.
After spending 87 days [almost 3 months off his 9 months sentence] behind bars at Kitalya Prisons, Eron Kiiza has been granted a 20m cash bail by Justice Micheal Erubu at the High Court this afternoon. He’s also required to deposit his passport in court before he regains his freedom fully.
