Speaking to the media shortly after Besigye and Lutale were further remanded to Luzira prisons until 7th March 2025, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who leads the duo’s legal team has revealed that the four time presidential candidate has decided to end his hunger strike and food and other items will be taken to him to prison by his family.
Government had been reluctant, taking almost three weeks transferring Besigye’s file to the Civilian Court as ordered by the Supreme Court and Besigye was instead being held in Luzira illegally since his remand order ended and was quashed by the orders of the apex court in their land mark ruling on 31st last month.
Besigye and Lutalo will now push for bail through their lawyers but with a lot politics at play, it remains a question of If, how and whether following president Museveni’s dossier which watered down calls for Besigye’s release and instead advised the sympathizers to call for a speedy trial.
