The police in Hoima have arrested a man after he was found in possession of several dismantled car and motorcycle parts. The suspect has been identified as Lucky Mujukulu, a resident of Kiryatete cell, Hoima West division, in Hoima City. He was also found in possession of a suspected stolen Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UED 157N.
Not lucky this time, Lucky Mujukulu was arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by joint security agencies comprising the police, Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), and the Defense Intelligence and Security (DIS)
The operation follows a public outcry about the rampant theft of vehicles in Hoima City and the neighbouring districts. Security personnel recovered several shock absorbers, motorcycle Exhausts, tyres, and number plates from the suspect, among others.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect. He said the suspect had been on the police’s wanted list for aggravated robbery. He says preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, together with others at large, would steal cars from the city and other parts of the Bunyoro region, and later disassemble them.
Hakiza says the thugs would later liaise with their counterparts in the districts of Masaka, Wakiso, and Kampala to sell the dismantled car and motorcycle parts.
