While announcing her withdraw from the race of the Speaker of parliament for the 12th parliament last week, Bukedea District MP also former Speaker of the 11th parliament Annet Anita Among revealed that she’ll support a candidate whom the NRM will endorse to replace her, she even promised to campaign for the candidate.

“I pledge my total support to the candidates who will be endorsed by the President and the Party, and Implore all colleague MPs of the 12th Parliament to do the same. I shall remain available to the service of my country as the party and the President may assign me.”-Anita Among pledged.

Anita Among who also sits on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the NRM, the party’s Apex body was absent as CEC met of Friday to decide on the speakership race with in her party despite being invited by president Museveni the party chairperson. She sent apologies for missing such an important meeting through the Secretary General Richard Todwong claiming threats to her life.

The embattled legislator who is currently accused of charges related to corruption was also absent as the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and the 12th NRM Parliamentary Caucus met to vote and formally endorse the party’s candidate for the Speakership and Deputy speakership.

Anita Among who hasn’t been seen in public since the day she attended President Museveni’s swearing ceremony at Kololo on 12th this month is against absent today as legislators vote for Speaker and Deputy speaker of the 12th parliament where she’ll sit as a mere MP and not a Speaker like the previous term. When voting started, her name was read but she was no where to be seen to cast her vote for Oboth Oboth.

Trouble befell Anita Among when her political machine collapsed on the same day she attended Museveni’s swearing in when the Patriotic League of Uganda led by the first son also Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Muhoozi rescinded his endorsement for her re-election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

She would later attend a meeting with President Museveni who questioned her about the many allegations of corruption in parliament and illicit wealth creation. It’s in this meeting that she was directed to withdraw from the race which she had already invested heavily and would have done anything with in her means to win.

Life has never been the same ever since she met president Museveni on the night of 14th this month. Detectives have since launched search operations at her residences in Kampala, office at parliament, her country homes, businesses and have since seized a lot of equipment, documents, six luxury vehicles including the Shs3.4billion Rolls Royce which is at the centre of the storm.

Ruhinda North legislator Thomas Tayebwa her former Deputy who hasn’t been investigated yet was endorsed by the NRM to contest on the same position. Tayebwa has since apologized to Ugandans on behalf of the leadership of the 11th parliament for any lapses that didn’t go well.

Voting counting is under way at Kololo, the race for the next Speaker of Parliament has attracted three candidates. The three-male dominated race includes Jinja Southern East legislator Paul Mwiru on the NUP ticket, Laroo-Pece MP Norbert Mao who is also the President General of Democratic Party and NRM’s Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth.
