President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has named the new Chief Justice following the retirement of Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo who has been Chief Justice since 2020. Dollo retired three days ago after clocking the mandatory age of 70 years, with a 4-decade journey with in the legal realms.

While retiring, Dollo handed over to his Deputy Justice Flavian Nzeija whom the president has now named as the new Chief Justice. Nzeija is currently 56 years old and previously served as principal Judge until February 2025 appointed him to replace the then Deputy Chief Justice Richard Butera who had also retired.

The appointment of Nzeija as Chief Justice comes at an opportune time when the Supreme Court is set to hear a presidential elections petition filed by former presidential candidate Robert Kasibante who now wants the Apex court to cancel Museveni’s victory and order the Electoral Commission to hold fresh presidential elections.
