Former Leader of Opposition and Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) iron lady Winnie Kiiza has lashed at police for what many are calling selective application of laws during this campaign season especially for presidential candidates.

According to Winnie Kiiza who posted on her X formerly twitter account, police should stop taking the Civility of Ugandans for granted but the end results might be as bad as ungovernable.

Her statement follows commotion that ensued Bobi Wine’s campaign trail in Bwizibwera as he campaigned in Mbarara when his team was intercepted and several were arrested, beaten and teargassed. Some where even undressed while being arrested.

Among those arrested in today’s operation is Olivia Lutaya who spent four years in jail. The then very powerful Court Martial rejected all their bail applications for four years until president Museveni decided to forgive them and some remained in prison for refusing to accept that they committed some crimes.

On Wednesday as Bobi Wine campaigned in Kiruhura and Kazo, goons dressed in Museveni branded t.shirts, holding Museveni posters equipped with stones and sticks reigned chaos on Bobi Wine’s campaign team and even failed him to hold a campaign rally in the district.

Speaking about the Kiruhura incident, Bobi Wine revealed that police never arrested those who assaulted his team members but instead arrested the victims whom they handpicked in their hotel rooms in Mbarara.

Police Spokesperson Afande Kituuma Rusoke in a statement this evening revealed that the arrests made today in Mbarara targeted those who have been assaulting police officers trailing and giving security to Bobi Wine’s campaigns.

As police continues to prove a point in it’s actions against one presidential candidate, many believe the Uganda Police is acting partisan when it leaves NRM supporters to use direct routes to campaign venues and on another side force other candidates especially Bobi Wine and Nandala Mafabi to trek long journeys to theirs.

During the last election in 2020-2021, police was arresting supporters of National Unity Platform moving with Bobi Wine, some are still in prisons and have never been tried while others have never been seen ever since. They’re not in known prisons and have never been presented in courts.
