Nebbi district leaders have expressed excitement to the government and partners after completing construction of a multimillion multipurpose water dam project at “Got Tar” in Ossi East parish, Parombo Sub-county.

The 10,000 cubic liter Water Dam project at “Got Tar” has been constructed at a tune of shs 314,467,218 million. It has components of animal watering troughs and boreholes respectively.

It is one of the projects implemented under Local Climate Adaptive Living (LoCAL) purely climate resilient piloting projects which are currently in the districts of Nwoya, Nebbi, Zombo and Kasese.

Speaking during the commissioning of the dam on Tuesday, Evelyn Anichan the water officer for Nebbi district asserted the structural integrity has not been compromised.

Anican added that water scarcity has been stressing this community for a long period of time.

Fualing Doreen the district natural resources officer says this water dam is going to serve a population of 3,834 people and 15, 342 livestock thus improving the quality of life for families.

This project came because of climate change and Nebbi district is among the four districts the government has considered for piloting of this project. Nebbi received shs.485.5 million for various projects. Fualing explained

Emmanuel Orombi the district LCV chairperson applauds (LoCAL) for funding this projects it is part of the development the municipal authorities are implementing with funding from government and other partners assuring dedication of the leaders.

“As a community we have completed the construction of this water source for both people and livestocks.” Orombi

Bwire Paul Lukalu the RDC Nebbi says the projects are milestones towards health services and infrastructure development and urges the communities to guard such projects jealously.

Recently, the Parliamentary Committee of Climate carried out monitoring in the districts of Nwoya, Zombo and Nebbi and holistically engaged leaders on climate change adaptation and mitigation with resilience. Their major emphasis was underscored depletion of environment and commitment by government and partners to fight against the vice.

Laurence Songa Biyika, the Member of Parliament for Ora county in Zombo district who doubled as Chairman Committee of Climate Change, says Uganda and development partners have joined forces and put resources together to tackle climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Songa advised the district officials to sensitize the general public to embrace climate resilient adoptions and embrace use of renewable energy, conservation and restoration of depleted environments.

He says the government is making sure road infrastructural developments, bridges, hospitals facilities and school’s buildings are supposed to be climate resilient.

During their visits to these three districts, MPs conducted field inspections at several sites and conducted meetings with leaders comprising technocrats, politicians and locals.

They encouraged implementation of climate resilience projects, and implored leaders about critical projects such as infrastructure, roads and bridges to harness and mitigate harsh impacts of climate change.

Flavia Kabahendu, the woman MP for Kyegegwa district, a committee member on climate change who doubled as chairperson of gender committee has emphasized and underscored inclusiveness of women and children on climate harnessing in Uganda.

“Accessibility, affordability and responsiveness of the seeds and micro-irrigation technology and other traditional harnessing and other energy saving technologies. The harnessing of traditional climate-climate smart systems, could there be the same traditional system where we can integrate and review the designs of the infrastructures to determine their resilience. Kabuhendo

She implored deliberate involvement of women in the conservation and restoration of the environment. Pressure for the DegaZettement of protected areas to pave way for the locals to practice farming.

Eng. Ronald Ssubuga, Nakawa East constituency MP, urged the district to encourage documentation of wastelands and forests’ coverage in terms of acreage for future reference, developing drainage master plan, human capital development, garbage handling in urban centers, and roads infrastructures.

On Monday the office of the president in Zombo district embarked on monitoring projects under LoCAL, being led by resident district Commissioner Festus Ayikubua, Assistant resident Commissioner Bruno Obomba Mananu and journalists.

It was discovered works at both Ora bridge and Namthin bridge are progressing well although there are some challenges.

“Gradually getting there. The construction of Namthin bridge by Zombo DLG under Local has reached 90%. The bridge upon completion will help facilitate mobility between Nebbi & Zombo. We implore the contractor to ensure quality and value for money.” Bruno expressed this on his facebook.
