President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned Uganda’s first locally developed anti-tick vaccine at the National Livestock Resources Research Institute (NaLIRRI) at Namulonge, Nansana Municipality, describing it as a lasting solution to tick-borne diseases that have long affected livestock. The 170 billion-shilling initiative was undertaken by the government of Uganda to address the tick threat to livestock in the country. Four bodies were retrieved from River Nkuse on the second day of search operations following a deadly boat accident that occurred on Tuesday evening. The accident occurred after a canoe ferrying passengers from Bugoma Forest Reserve in Kikuube District to Kyaleni Cell, Pacwa Town Council in Kagadi District capsized. The canoe is believed to have had more than 30 people on board. President Museveni has proposed a tax exemption on the salaries of scientists, arguing that their work has a tremendous impact on the country’s development. Speaking during the launch of a Ugandan-made anti-tick vaccine at the National Livestock Resources  Research Institute in Namulonge on Thursday, Museveni said the tax relief would be similar to what is exempted from soldiers and police officers. Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha has sentenced Christopher Okello Onyum to death for the “meticulous” and “barbaric” murder of four toddlers at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre.
