On 11th this month, embattled Kenya president Dr William Samoei Ruto fired his entire cabinet and sent all the Cabinet Secretaries packing and Attorney General Justin Muturi who is also the former Speaker of the National Assembly in response to the Youth-led Anti government protests.
Ruto while announcing the decision to dissolve his cabinet, revealed that he had only retained Prime Cabinet Secretary [seasoned politician] Musalia Mudavadi who also doubles as Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary and also the office of his Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was not affected.
“Upon reflection and listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and it’s achievements and challenges, I have today in line with the powers given to me decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the CSs and AG except the PCs and CS for Foreign Affairs and the office of the DP is not affected in any way”-said Ruto
The Kenyan protesting GenZ praised Ruto for making such a bold move and were looking forward to new faces and hardworking ministers could Ruto name his new cabinet. The opposition too was eager to see the men and women who will make up Ruto’s next cabinet.

Yesterday Friday, president Ruto announced 11 new ministers as part of his new cabinet but to the surprise of every one. Ruto re-appointed six of the fired ministers including those that the protesting GenZ had mooted for their dismissal especially former Senator of Tharak Nithi county now Interior CS Prof Kithure Kindiki and former Garisa township MP Aden Duale who was also re-appointed.
Announcing the new same faces, Ruto said “I have started the process of forming a new, broad-based cabinet to assist me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country”.
I hereby nominate the following first batch 11 individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General’-said Ruto ;
- Interior amd National Administration- Prof Kithure Kindiki
- Defence- Aden Duale
- Water, Sanitation and Irrigation-Eric Murithi muga
- Roads and Transport- Davis Chirchir
- Environment, Climate Change and Forestry- Roselinda Soipan Tuiya
- Lands, Housing and Urban Development- Alice Wahome
- Agriculture and Livestock Development- Dr Andrew Muihia Karanja
- Education- Julius Migos Ogamba
- Information, Communications and the Digital Economy- Dr Margret Nyambura Ndung’u
- Health- Dr Debra Mlongo Barasa
- Attorney General- Rebecca Miano
Among the 11, Ruto re-appointed Prof Kindiki to the same position [Interior and National Administration], Aden Duale was also re-appointed to the same position of Defense, Davis ChirChir moved from Energy and Petroleum to Roads and Transport , Alice Wahome was re-appointed to the same docket of Lands, Housing and Urban Development and Roselinda Soipan Tuiya was also re-appointed in the same docket of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry
The re-appointment of some old faces has caused unease and ignited calls for another round of protests countrywide starting from Tuesday through the whole of next week as Ruto prepares the list of the remaining 11 cabinet secretaries.
Reports indicate that veteran politician Raila Amolo Odinga had accepted his political grouping to be part of Ruto’s broad based government but development a cold feet on Thursday night and pulled out of the arrangement after being advised that joining Ruto’s government will be the end of his political legacy.
The Uganda version of GenZ have also been mobilizing for a peaceful march to parliament in protest of the growing corruption with in parliament that even president Museveni has decried in his recent addresses. Much as police revealed they’re no streets for protests on 23rd July, the determined #March2Parliament Crusaders continue mobilizing.
