In the news this afternoon, a top Museveni minister has survived being showered with bullets while on field monitoring of mining activities in the South Western District of Kisoro district.
Phiona Nyamutooro the National Youth MP and Junior Minister for mining in the ministry of Energy and Mineral Development were on routine field visits to mining sites in the country and while at the National Cement Co a subsidiary of Devki Group, a private security guard cocked his gun to shoot the minister and all the security apparatus she had moved with.
The private security guards while being disarmed claimed they got orders from above to conduct the shooting at whoever was at these premises which are said to be conducting illegal mining.

The visibly shocked Minister Nyamutooro is seen in the video wondering who on earth ordered these young men to shoot at her yet she was on official duties that directly fall in her docket of mining. The security guards have been arrested.
“And then you have the guts and audacity to cock the gun, this is laughable. Let us know who the directors are, please call them, bring them to book. Actually they should be the one’s under arrest”-Nyamutooro ordered the Security.
She has since halted the illegal mining activities being done by the National Cement co in Kisoro with immediate effect. She has also revealed that as a ministry, they are moving across the country to halt whoever is doing any illegal mining and all should be licensed.
“We are going to come back to ensure that the equipment has been moved away and mining has been closed in all the areas that National Cement is illegally carrying out mining”-said Nyamutooro.
