Three Detained NRM legislators To Charged Today

Despite Police’s Fred Enanga denying that police hasn’t summoned any politician for questioning over corruption, rumor has it that the three MPs who went for questioning at the CID headquarters in Kibuli yesterday were detained and spent the night at Kira Police cells.

The detained legislators include Yusuf Mutembuli of Bunyole East in Butaleja district, Paul Akamba of Busiki constituency in Namutumba district and Cissy Namujju the Women Representative of Lwengo district all on the NRM ticket.

While delivering his State of the Nation Address at Kololo last Thursday, president Museveni revealed that he had got enough evidence of how Ministry of finance officials, ministry accounting officers collude with legislators on parliament committees to include their share [cut and kickbacks] in the budgets. The president also said that his anti-corruption dogs would soon bite.

“I have been hearing that there’s a racket (of corruption) between Ministry of Finance and parliament. I now have proof. Abo bafudde banange, am very sorry for them”-said the president.

The president however after the Speech came under fire for not tackling the most pressing issues currently happening in the country and talking a lot with little action on matters corruption.

Details about their detention remain scanty but we are very sure that when they appear in the Anti-corruption court in Kampala today, the cases will be made public whether are suspects or witnesses.

For the best part of the last three months, Parliament at the instigation of the #UgandaParliamentExpo has been under spot over corruption with legislators collecting signatures to censure the four commissioners of parliament Mathias Mpuuga, Solomon Silwany, Esther Afoyochan and Prossy Mbabazi for illegally awarding themselves a whooping Shs1.7billion as service awards.

Cissy Namujju sits on the Physical Infrastructure Committee in Parliament, Yusuf Mutembuli is the Vice Chairperson of the Legal and Parliamentary affairs committee while Paul Akamba sits on the Environment and Natural Resources Committee
