Police in Kyenjojo District have arrested a 40-year-old man over the suspected murder and alleged cannibalism of a woman. According to a statement released by Vincent Twesige the Rwenzori West Police Spokesperson, the suspect  identified as Richard Mwesige and curiously also known as Baby Nsolo (animal) was arrested on May 2nd  from his home in Kihara Cell, Kyarusozi Town Council, following a tip-off from concerned residents. According to Twesige, the case came to light after residents raised concerns over the prolonged absence of Lukia Karungi 35 from the village. Six people have been confirmed dead and 14 critically injured following a deadly road crash along the busy Karuma-Packwach highway this Mondat morning. The crash involving a Nile Star bus and a trailer truck happened at about 1.00 am Monday at Lapok Mor cell in Purongo Town Council in Nwoya district. The bus was reportedly enroute to Kampala from Koboko district. Initial reports indicated three people had died on the spot following the crash. Twenty-eight people are in police custody for allegedly engaging in illegal wolfram mining in Kisoro District. Of those arrested, 25 are Rwandan nationals, according to security sources, while three are Ugandans. The suspects were apprehended on Saturday, May 2, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation. The mining site, which belongs to the government, is located in Kabaya Village, Busengo Parish, Nyarubuye Sub-county, and is overseen by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development under the Mineral Police Protection Unit. Two people have been confirmed dead and two others injured, after being swept away by landslides in Kisoro district. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 05:00 AM in Nyabiyonga village, Chibumba parish, Murora Sub county. The deceased were Brenda Musoni Brenda ,14 and  Eseri  Mujawimana ,12,  residents of Bukerahe village , same parish. Police in Busoga North has mounted search for Afuwa Namugwano, a resident of Kibuye village, in Bukamba sub county, in Kaliro district over allegedly killing her two year old stepson, Rahim Kivuluga. It is alleged that, Namugwano’s husband, Awali Balikowa was concerned about Kivuluga’s whereabouts, only to be told he had slept at a distant relative’s home. A four-storey building under construction has collapsed in Mbale City, leaving one person dead and several others injured. The incident occurred at around 3:00 am on Saturday in Kachumbala Cell, Namakwekwe Estate, where four construction workers were reportedly residing at the time.
