Police in Kyenjojo District have arrested a 40-year-old man over the suspected murder and alleged cannibalism of a woman.

According to a statement released by Vincent Twesige the Rwenzori West Police Spokesperson, the suspect  identified as Richard Mwesige and curiously also known as Baby Nsolo (animal) was arrested on May 2nd  from his home in Kihara Cell, Kyarusozi Town Council, following a tip-off from concerned residents.

According to Twesige, the case came to light after residents raised concerns over the prolonged absence of Lukia Karungi 35 from the village. She has been Nsolo’s partner with whom they have a child.  Karungi had inexplicably not been seen in the area for about one and a half months, raising suspicions on her whereabouts.

Twesige says that the matter of her absence was reported to Kyarusozi police by Asaaba Aheebwa  the LC I Chairperson of Kihara Cell, who raised concern about the disappearance of Karungi and suspicious behavior of Mwesige. This prompted police to carry out a search on the suspect’s home.

“Upon searching the suspect’s house, we discovered decomposing human remains,” Twesige disclosed. “A human head was found tied in a polythene bag and hanging from the roof, while other body parts, including bones and clothing believed to belong to the deceased, were also recovered.”

The policespokesperson added that the body parts were conveyed to Kyenjojo General Hospital for DNA analysis to confirm the identity of the deceased and for a postmortem examination.

According to Asaba, Karungi and Mwesige had been in a romantic relationship and the two had a three months old baby. He adds that Mwesige is allegedly suspected of cannibalism tendencies and he could have eaten Karungi.
