Drama ensued that Entebbe International Airport this morning as authorities ordered Besigye’s Kenyan lead counsel Martha Wangari Karua entry into Uganda as she arrived to attend Erias Lukwago’s bail application coming up today at Makindye Court as treason case takes turns and twists.
Martha Karua arrived at the airport escorted by the Kenya Law Society President Charles Kanjama who was allowed entry but Karua was ordered to return to Nairobi despite holding a valid law practicing license issued to her by the Uganda Law Council early last year.
Lukwago was arrested last week as prepared to take court summons to Muhoozi who had been given 7 days to submit in his defense in a case where Besigye sued him for threatening to hang him on a tree in Gulu on heroes day.
What followed was SFC raiding his home, taken to Muhoozi’s basement and underwent several torture sessions before Muhoozi bowed to pressure and dumped him at Kira Division police station where he recorded a statement and was later arraigned before a magistrate in Makindye and charged with misprision of treason. In this state accuses Lukwago of knowing about Besigye’s plans to end Museveni’s 4-decade rule and didn’t report to authorities.

The former Lord Mayor was remanded Luzira Murchison Bay prison and is set to return to court today for his bail hearing on medical grounds. Despite fronting several sureties who included Gulu City Women MP Betty Aol Ochan, Dr. Lulume Mike Bayiga and Betty Bakireke Nambooze, prosecutors asked for more time to verify the documents submited. By the time of publishing this story, court was full to capacity as family, friends and politicians thronged the Makindye court to attend.
According to Lukwago’s Lawyer Medard Lubega Ssegona, Lukwago intimated to him that while in detention in Muhoozi’s basement, Lukwago was subjected to forced military exercises, was undressed and the tormentors took photos of his nakedness before forcing him to wear and NRM t.shirt to further humiliate him.
With Karua now blocked and ordered back to Nairobi and with Lukwago in Prison, Besigye’s legal team finds it hard to continue with the treason case which is set commence with evidence already handed to his team for clear understanding.
