The nation is mourning and parents of King David Primary School in Ndejje are yet to come to terms following a bus accident that has since left 20 pupils dead and one adult Ssekadde Tadeo the director of the school also perishing in the crash according to police
In a second statement about the accident, police has confirmed that the accident took place at Chekwatit Village, Kimawa Parish, Kawowo Sub-county in Kapchorwa District. Police says, the survivors who identities are yet to be established were rushed to Kaserem Health Centre IV, Kapchorwa General Hospital and others to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the school bus had taken pupils on an educational tour to Sipi Falls in Kapchorwa District. While returning from the tour, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road, struct a large stone along the roadside and overturned”-reads part of the police statement.

New details are emerging indicating that the bus had mechanical problems and it was fixed twice along the way to Sipi Falls in Kapchorwa District but the driver insisted even when he was advised to have the pupils boarded to another vehicle. He insisted calling it a minor mechanical problem which he would manage upto Kampala.

In a video seen by this publication, eye witnesses now say this bus belonging to Liberty Tours and Travel had mechanical problems which even forced the pupils to walk on foot to the tourism site of Sipi Falls as the mechanics in the area tried fixing the bus. They told the driver to have the bus fully fixed but he instead insisted.
Other details yet to be confirmed by this publication indicate that the bus parked to the maximum and was carrying over 103 pupils and 13 teachers according to Noah’s Ark restaurant where they had lunch before heading to Sipi falls.
This is the third Bus accident involving school going children heading for organized trips in just 6 days. Last week, a bus carrying students of Mwebaze High School from Kakiri collided with a train along the Mukono-Katosi road killing two people a student and a school metron. On Tuesday this week another busy belonging to Amuria High School carrying students of St.Paul S.S.S Katakwi crashed into a stationary truck along the Tirinyi road killing the driver and injuring 15 students.
The minister of Education Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo has since issued a ban on the school organized tours until investigations are done with the Uganda Police and Ministry of Works and Transport into the rampant accidents involving students.
