The Mathias Walukagga ruling has confirmed what many observers suspected even before the judgment was delivered. The core problem is not the individual candidate, and not even the court, but a policy gap in how Uganda treats A-Level equivalency for continuing university students. Before the ruling, public debate centered on a basic contradiction. A certificate is recognized as equivalent to A-Level and valid for university admission, yet it is time-limited on paper. Such timebound limitations serve a legitimate gatekeeping purpose, preventing entry routes from becoming permanent substitutes for formal education. However, the system provides no permanent, renewable, or substitute proof…
Before hitting the bush in the early 80s to fight the government of the day, president Museveni who was in his early 40s was like any other Uganda but ambitious about the affairs of his country. After capturing power in 1986, besides the 10 point program which he unveiled, he also revealed that the problem of Africa in General and Uganda in particular was not the people but leaders who want to overstay in power. It’s 2025 and president Museveni is up and about campaigning to extend his rule to 45 years. This wouldn’t have been possible if the term…
Almost a month ago, a group of army officers including Gen Proscovia Nalweyiso told Ugandans that they should go home immediately after casting their vote on voting day. These were countering Bobi Wine’s NUP’s message to their voters that they should stay around to witness vote counting and whatever takes place at the polling station. Their threats were later confirmed by the chairperson Electoral Commission Justice Simon Mugyenyi Byabakama who without quoting any legal provision said voters should immediately return home after casting their vote. He even revealed that those who dare stay around will be arrested like nsenene. The…

Uganda People’s Congress leader Jimmy Akena has in a very brave message to his supporters urged them to vote for any of the other 7 presidential candidates but not vote fo Museveni who is seeking to extend his grip to power to 45 years. Akena who picked nomination forms from the Electoral Commission failed to make it to the ballot over power struggles in his own party which saw three candidates including himself picking presidential nomination papers claiming they were the rightful leaders of the party. The Electoral Commission would later disqualify all the three claiming the party’s power struggles…
