Following the parliamentary Elections held almost two weeks ago, declaration of the winner in Ajuli county in Alebtong District represented by Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua was delayed over some 18 polling stations which the incumbent contested claiming irregularities. Police has this morning arrested another National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President just days after the highly contested 2026 General Elections where Museveni was declared winner with over 7m votes. The party Deputy President arrested today is Butambala county legislator Muhammed Muwanga Kivumbi whom police say he has cases to answer in regards to violence in the recently concluded Presidential and parliamentary elections in Butambala and will present him to court soon. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has named the new Chief Justice following the retirement of Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo who has been Chief Justice since 2020. Dollo retired three days ago after clocking the mandatory age of 70 years, with a 4-decade journey with in the legal realms. While retiring, Dollo handed over to his Deputy Justice Flavian Nzeija whom the president has now named as the new Chief Justice. Ugandans went to the polls on 15th to vote for their Members of parliament and president for the next five years. 48 hours later, the Byabakama-led Electoral Commission declared the election results. At the National Tally Centre in Lweza, Justice Simon Byabakama declared President Museveni winner of the highly contested polls with 7,946,772 votes (71%) followed by Bobi Wine who was Museveni’s closest rival who garnered 2741238 votes (24.72%) and these were followed by the other 6 candidates. As expected, the Uganda Communications Commission has reportedly ordered the shutting down of internet ahead of the elections a move which the regulator did even in the previous elections. The High Court in Kampala has finally made a ruling in a petition challenging the nomination of Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and 6 others for Nakawa West by the Electoral Commission.
