Ugandans deserve some respect and appreciation for having sustained the NRM government for this long. Ugandans have worked hard and sacrificed their time to ensure their leaders lived a comfortable life, anticipating in return for good governance with a good social policy that can cater for their social needs.
Unfortunately, we have been given a raw deal. Let it be known, that the offices and positions that they hold are not hereditary or customary but public offices at the expense of the taxpayers.
We expect all public servants or those holding political offices/positions to conduct themselves with high integrity while upholding the values of honesty, transparency, and accountability in leadership. We expect our leaders to espouse high moral standards.
The stubbornness and primitive arrogance of our leaders not to step aside, when suspected of having committed a felony, erodes the public trust in our leadership and institutions and can dent, tarnish, and damage the country’s image and reputation.
Uganda as a country deserves Honorable members of Parliament of high moral caliber who will bring respect to the August House to defend and protect the Constitution and respect the people’s will and interests.
The institution of Parliament today is weak and has failed to the Executive and has abandon to play it’s role of oversight to serve the interests of the people, to protect the poor, the powerless, and the voiceless and has instead resorted to serve and protect the interest of it’s own leadership and that of the Executive.
This has bred arrogance and abuse of power. They steal with impunity and become protective and defensive when asked asked to accounts for the loot. This has now resulted into shame to the country.
It is disheartening if the word democracy is just a mere rhetoric for glossing public speeches if indeed leaders do not stick to the ideals and values of democracy.
The dignity of our institutions has been raped and reduced to serve the personal interests of those who serve in them by individuals who lack shame and moral to resign. This explains the poor and inept background of their upbringing. Leaders who are not ashamed to resign are a disgrace to a civilized world.
The beacon of politics is providing social justice to the citizens, not for regime survival.
Yesterday I expected our dear President in his SONA to talk seriously and aggressively about the monster amidst us.
The monster eating us which will eventually eat him as well. This monster in the name of Corruption is deadly. I can see it engulfing us as a country. If our leader continues to dilly dally by handling corruption with kid gloves, soon not far, the whole country will be sanctioned.
In the President’s speech, one who is enlightened could easily smell the pretensions and unseriousness of fighting corruption. Our Parliament has yet to develop the intellectual ability and culture to independently face the bullying of the Executive.
The president was also not audible and laud enough on the debt burden. The growing debt burden has shot through the roof and threatening to reach 100 trillion. As if this is not a challenge to Uganda’s economic growth. The levels debt are unprecedented and is the highest in the history of Uganda. The President left Ugandans unexplained and left them at the mercy of fate.
The unexplained insecurity within Kampala, where innocent unsuspecting Ugandans are ambushed with flying kicks or round kicks as some have named them, only to be robbed imagine, even during daylight.
The President avoided talking about many issues such as why there is erratic power supply when the levels of our lakes have increased to the highest levels, when the production of oil starts, providing affordable housing for our urban dwellers, unemployment among our youth, what happened to the value of the 1987 currency reform? why our shilling has terribly depreciated in value?
For over 38 years, there has been no railway service to northern Uganda, while the whole system remains dismally operating at a snail’s pace, one wonders how our roads can protected from the destruction caused by the lorries.
Finally be informed that the levels of mental illness are on the rise because our young people have no jobs and lack of income and as a result have financial-induced stress and depression, the government has to find alternative employment for our youth. PDM is a good concept but it has to be broadened and the youth should be given top priority.
The amount given has to be increased to 5 million shillings because 1 million is nothing, it can’t even buy a cow. This is the only way we can give our youth hope. Investing more in the industry with added value with the guidance of technical staff at Parish levels will kick start the growth of the industry and become the biggest employer of our children.
