The International Crimes Division court granted bail to former Butambala legislator Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi and his co-accused with bail of other 6 accused persons deferred to 13th July after court found that the sureties they presented had issues and would return when they present new sureties.
Justice Suzan Okalany granted Muwanga Kivumbi a cash bail of Shs10m and granted his co-accused Shs1m each. They were all released and went home and giving a sigh of relief to their relatives who had missed them for the last 6 months.
However, news coming in indicate that police and other security agencies have this evening re-arrested Muwanga Kivumbi as he returned from Butambala. In a video making rounds on social media, police waylaid Muwanga Kivumbi at road block before he was dragged out of his vehicle and bundled into a waiting numberless Toyota Hiace famously known as a Drone.
Kivumbi was arrested on 22nd January, just one week after the General elections and charged with terrorism alongside several other people including school going children. On the eve of the Presidential and MP elections on 15th January, security operatives opened fire on Kivumbi’s supporters at his home in his house and killed 7 of them and injuring several. These were accused of causing havoc in the elections of Butambala.
Upon his release, Kivumbi launched a scathing attack on the government saying he was only resting for only two days and then start from where he ended. He also talked about Muhoozi whom he said was uncomfortable with the Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi whom he said he should keep checking those in government without fear or favor.
Kivumbi also revealed that the attack on his supporters in his house targeted him and he also said the actual number of people who died in his home were 10 not seven. It’s not yet clear why the NUP Deputy President for Buganda Region has been re-arrested but when police issues an update, we shall publish it here.
