SERERE: The police in Serere District are investigating the murder of a 19-year-old student, Miriam Acam, who was fatally stabbed on Saturday evening in Ocaapa Central Ward, Ocaapa Town Council at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Acam, a student at Serere Senior Secondary School, had reportedly visited her boyfriend, Julius Lazarus Otim, 23, a chapati vendor and resident of Ocaapa Town Council, when the incident occurred. According to preliminary reports, Acam and Otim locked themselves inside a house when a fight broke out.
Witnesses indicate that the couple was seen together in Otim’s room around 7:00 p.m. on the same day. Shortly after, neighbors raised an alarm, prompting residents to respond. They found Acam collapsing at the doorway, where she died almost instantly.
South Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Stephen Mukombe confirmed the incident, stating that it has been officially registered at Serere Police Station.“We have one incident which was registered at Serere Police Station, which is a case of suspected murder by stabbing which occurred in Ocaapa Central Ward, Ocaapa Town Council.”
The police were alerted and subsequently secured the scene, which is now under the command of the Serere District Police Commander. A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered.“ The suspect, who sustained injuries, is currently receiving treatment under police guard. We shall record his statement once he stabilizes,” Mukombe added.
