The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has blasted the Uganda Police for the high handedness on Bobi Wine and his supporters especially this week when he returned to campaign in and around Kampala.

Mayiga blames police of selective enforcement of the guidelines where some presidential candidates candidates and their supporters are left to hold processions and do the opposite when it comes to Bobi Wine and Kyagulanyi.

Police and army on Monday as Bobi Wine campaigned in Kawempe used bullets, pepper spray, electric tasers, tear gas, sniffer dogs and some supporters were arrested and police claim they injured police officers who were on duty brutalizing the Kyagulanyi supporters.

The same was the case in Mukono and Bwikwe with NUP supporters having to brave through bullets and teargas in order to attend Kyagulanyi’s rallies to listen to his message of a new Uganda which he preaches wherever he goes.

The Katikiro also implores police to enforce the law in a non violent and non partisan manner. Mayiga wonders how police’s ban on processions is really fair and realistic because campaign rallies are not churches were you expect supporters to move quietly because politics is all about vibe, excitement and police’s major task should be to make sure supporters don’t harm others.

“It’s unrealistic to ban processions of supporters. Political rallies are not prayer meetings to which worshippers go calmly. Political rallies are about excitement. And with Uganda’s public transport (bodaboda) it’s unrealistic to expect supporters to move to campaign venues quietly. Ensure supporters don’t harm other, but let them be”-said Mayiga
