She was a women member of parliament for Bushenyi District, Minister in charge of General Duties in the office of the Prime Minister, Minister for Gender and social Development, author, educator and rights advocate.
Canon Mary Busingye Karoro Okurut breathed her last yesterday at the age of 71 years from the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi where she had been taken for medication following an accident early last month as she returned from a consultative meeting in Nebbi district.

While in Nebbi, Karoro Okurut had announced her bid to represent the Elderly in the 12th parliament as National MP. The accident left her with a broken pelvis born and was briefly admitted at Nakasero hospital before being to Aga Khan Hospital where she died from.
Her demise has attracted condolence messages from Ugandans from across spheres describing her as a woman who advocated for the rights of women, stood for the well being of Ugandans and touched lives in her life in education, religion and politics.
A cloud of sorrow hovers above the Ugandan parliament, Bushenyi district where she was born and Valley University of Science and Technology where she served a member to the Board of trustees.
