News coming indicate that a plane carrying 242 passengers and crew members has crashed in India’s Gujarat region after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the city of Ahmedabad.
Flight AI171 Boeing Dreamliner belonging to Air India was headed for London’s Gatwick Airport crashed few minutes after taking off. Videos seen by this website show a huge smoke at the crash site as rescue teams try to put off the fire.
Air India has since revealed more details regarding the crash but the number of fatalities and those injured remains unknown. The Airline however says those injured have been rushed to hospitals for medical attention.
“The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals”-the Airline said in a statement.
Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off.
