Reports have been swirling on social media indicating how Covid-19 is back in style in Uganda as the country prepares for the 2026 General Elections. Some believed the reports while some thought it was another strategy to limit people from gathering during campaigns.
These rumors started from Buliisa district where reports suggested that authorities had discovered 10 covid-19 cases from the Oil camp facilities and were undergoing treatment.

However, the Ministry of Health is a widely publicized press statement signed by the Director General of Health Services Dr. Charles Olaro clarified that much as other countries in Asia and middle East have reported new covid-19 cases, Uganda hasn’t reported any yet.
“The Ministry reassures the public that there is no resurgence of COVID-19 in Uganda, and the national situation remains stable and fully under control, since the end of the major COVID-19 outbreak three years ago…… The Ministry continues to monitor information about new strains of COVID-19 being reported in various parts of the world and working in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure the continued safety of the population”-the statement reads in part.
Since Uganda experienced the tough times of Covid-19 between 2020 and 2021, the country has faced two Ebola outbreaks and Mpox which the Ministry of Health has since handled well despite some fatal cases.
