News coming indicate that the National Unity Platform following it’s rigorous process to choose a flag bearer for it’s candidate in the Kawempe North by-election set for next month, they announces flamboyant City Lawyer Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola to be their candidate.
The party ticket attracted 10 candidates who were all vetted by the party’s Electoral Commission committee. Last Saturday, the 10 were subjected to a public debate at the party headquarters to articulate their manifestos.
Counsel Erias Nalukoola emerged the best among all the 10 and followed by Umar Magala and Luwemba Lusswa Muhammad who was late Ssegirinya’s aide came third. The other contenders for the NUP ticket included Nsereko Moses who presented the exact character of the late Ssegirinya, Saulo Kulya Zziwa, Serunkuma Salim also known as Mafu Mafu, Kakyika Fredrick, Dr. Charles Rubagumya, Eng Ssenkungu Kenneth and Mathias Mulumba.
Now NUP’s flag bearer Nalukoola will face NRM’s Hajjatt Faridah Nambi who is a daughter to the party’s Vice Chairperson Hajji Moses Kigongo, FDC’s Saddat Mukiibi alias Khalifah Aganaga, Hajjati Hanifah Karadi who was denied the NRM party ticket but has opted to contest as independent among others.
Much as all NUP candidates were forced to sign that they won’t come as independent if not chosen to carry the party ticket, rumor has it that some may come as independent even when such automatically leads them to lose party membership as revealed by the party’s Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.
