At the beginning of last year in what was dubbed as the Uganda Parliament Exhibition, parliament records leaked online showed how Commissioner of Parliament Mathias Mpuuga and other three commissioners in a meeting chaired by Speaker of Parliament a whooping Shs1.7bn among themselves as Service Award.

This didn’t sit well with his party National Unity Platform which instituted disciplinary action against Mpuuga, he slammed the process and refused to attend any. The party wrote to Speaker Anita Among recalling Mpuuga as Commissioner of parliament which she respectfully declined.

When this was said and done, Bobi Wine suspended Mpuuga as his Deputy president for Buganda Region owing to his involvement in a money sharing scheme which the party says tantamount to corruption.

Now in a press conference held at the party’s headquarters at Makerere Kavule, the Secretary David Lewis Rubongoya unveiled new leaders replacing those that have died or quitted the party.

Among the new leaders unveiled is Benjamin Katana who replaces the deceased Maama Jolly Mugisha as the National Consultative Forum Vice Chairperson. Bwambale Geoffrey replaces Aguuda Moses as the Deputy Secretary for Youth in Western Region and Rev. Dr. Ben replaces the late Byarugaba William as the Secretary for the Elderly.

The others unveiled include Harriet Ageno who replaces the late Simon Toolit as Secretary for Policy and Julius Maganda who replaces Isabirye as Secretary for PWDs. The party has also unveiled Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba as Deputy President for Western Uganda replacing Jolly Mugisha who passed on last year.

Butambala legislator who heads the Buganda parliamentary Caucus also the Parliamentary Accounts Committee Chairperson has been unveiled as the Deputy President for Buganda replacing Mathias Mpuuga who exited the party after his suspension. Kivumbi and those appointed will work in acting until they’re approved by the party’s Delegates Conference which will sit in June this year.

Mpuuga has since formed his own political bus dubbed the Democratic Alliance with his long time friends Lubega Mukaaku and Mike Mabike and rumor has it that these are in talks with some political parties to present Mpuuga as a presidential candidate in the 2026 general elections and they were at JEEMA’s offices in Mengo yesterday to convince the Asuman Basalirwa party to speak the same language on reforms which seem impossible at the moment.
