Going by the proverbial saying of a Hungry man is an angry man”, Makerere University government funded students protested the delays by the University to release their money for meals as hunger had ravaged them for weeks threatening their lives.
After the protests where MUK promised to release the funds in just hours, Vice Chancellor Prof Banarbas Nawangwe suspended three students indefinitely. These suspended students launched several attempts to have their suspension rescinded.
The three suspended hungry students include; Aliat Oyet, Losiru Felix and Opira Francis through the Students guild leadership requested to be pardoned. As they awaited to be pardoned, they sought legal assistance from the Uganda Law Society president Isaac Ssemakadde who gave prof Nawangwe only two days to rescind the students’ suspension or he get sued
Ahead of the 13th November Wednesday deadline given to him by the Uganda Law Society to cancel the suspensions or get sued, prof Nawangwe has written to the Student’s guild president pardoning the suspended students but warned them to further avoid engaging in acts of hooliganism.
“I hereby rescind the suspension of the three students with immediate effect. Please advise the affected students to desist from any further acts of hooliganism at the University”- Prof Nawangwe writes in a letter.
