In a dramatic turn of events, Speaker Anita Among has apologized for the chaos that took a dark turn in parliament when Kilak North legislator threw heavy punches on Mityana Municipality legislator Francis Zaake who attempted to throw him out of a seat.
Chaos ensued in parliament shortly after Zaake was punched, lights were switched off, media was thrown out as security operatives raided parliament and threw legislators out of the chambers.
The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi has lashed at Speaker Anita Among for allowing intruders to enter in parliament and throw away legislators which is a repeat of the 2017 chaos which ensued and left several legislators badly beaten.
“Members were beaten, brutalized, all of us were being shoved around like little children, in our own House. They were stepping on these chairs, pushing and they picked up a couple of MPs, while beating them up. Our colleagues were assaulted, including women, by men, whom we… https://t.co/kMFRR37mvy pic.twitter.com/fWIYXltOvF

Anita Among in reaction suspended 12 legislators including the Puncher Anthony Akol and the punched Francis Zaake who has been sent to his sick bed by Akol’s heavy punches. This is the second time Zaake is being punched during heated debates, in 2017 during the togikwatako, he was punched by Gen Katumba Wamala and would later spend weeks in ICU.
It’s also the second time MP Anthony Akol is boxing a fellow member of parliament. He in July 2020 boxed former MP Odonga Otto in parliament when the two had an argument. He would also later say he only slapped Odonga with just a slap in self defense.
“I want to register my apology to what happened to our colleague sincerely, that wasn’t called for. What happened to Zaake wasn’t called for. Following what transpired to Zaake this morning in the House, I will refer to Rule 89 which states that if the Speaker considers that the conduct of the member can’t be adequately dealt with, he/she may name the members,” said Among
