Parliament is currently holding it’s morning session today Wednesday 6th November 2024. Top on the agenda is consideration of the National Coffee Amendment Bill, 2024, in which MPs will decide whether Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) is abolished or not.

In the same sitting, MPs are also expected to consider Gov’t’s proposal seeking to abolish Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) & Uganda Road Fund have their functions taken over by the Ministry of Works & Transport.

Tension is already brewing at parliament with heavy deployment of both army and police inside and with in the precincts of parliament something that has already defined the mood of today’s plenary.

In a dramatic turn of events however, a famous legislator Hon Anthony Akol representing Kilak North Constituency has been captured on camera boxing Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake as the two fought over a seat.

Had it not been fellow MP who came in to separate the two, Zaake would be bedridden by now like it was the case in 2017 when he was admitted into ICU after being punched by Gen Katumba Wamala during the heated Togikwatako debate.

The heavy punches rained on Zaake by a fellow MP has since elicited mixed reactions with many questioning the morals of the MPs in the 11th Parliament headed by Speaker Anette Anita Among.

Stakes are high over this controversial National Coffee Bill with President Museveni issuing threats to both opposition and NRM MPS opposed to the bill that he’ll crash them. Opposition MPS led by the Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi also didn’t back down and vowed to fight off Museveni as parliament defines the fate of UCDA today.
