Speaker Anita Among was last week cornered in a tight corner after a video of her tribalizing the bill on the rationalization of Uganda Coffee Development Authority went viral. In the side video, during a break, Speaker Anita Among was heard telling a colleague that “DON’T ALLOW THOSE BAGANDA GET THE NUMBERS”.
In her defense, parliament’s Director of Communication Chris Obore watered down the narrative pushing the speaker into a blame corner. Obore instead said the video was generated by Artificial Intelligence and Speaker had not committed a sin worthy an apology or even resignation as many Ugandans has suggested.
Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga immediately shared his position and that of Buganda to government not to rationalize and push back UCDA back to the ministry of Agriculture and instead the Authority in question should be well funded for it to continue pushing the good agenda on coffee but not eliminate it which Mayiga said is a plot again Buganda and other Ugandans who depend on Coffee.

Mayiga re-iterated the same at a public function yesterday where he urged government to consider listening to the emerging voices of the shareholders in the coffee production and value chain than taking them for a ride as if their thoughts don’t matter.
He further revealed that Speaker Anita Among after the DON’T ALLOW THOSE BAGANDA GET THE NUMBERS numbers, wrote to him but she continued blaming Artificial Intelligence for the mishap.
“Speaker Anita Among was heard speaking things we haven’t understood, things that look like punishing the Baganda as if the Bill was for Baganda’s alone for her to talk about the Baganda. Sent me a message, we do communicate, she denied the allegations in the message she sent me”-said Mayiga.
Katikiro further says that legislators from Buganda, Ankole, Bugisu and those from else where coffee is grown all insist that Uganda Coffee Development Authority shouldn’t be eliminated in the rationalization but government isn’t listening to such voices but hellbent on doing away with UCDA.
“They say we tribalized the Coffee bill, didn’t you hear them. But who started the tribalistic sentiments, was it us or them, who started the tribal card?”-Mayiga further questions
His comments come at a time when Museveni has summoned his NRM legislators for a caucus meeting at his Kisozi farm in Gomba later this week and reports suggest he wants to convince them to support the elimination of UCDA.
