NOT BECAUSE HE’S A WESTERNER: Why Tayebwa Has So Far Survived Museveni’s Crackdown On Corruption

As former Speaker Anita Among continues to face Museveni’s music over corruption allegations leveled against her with state yet to formally charge her, many Ugandans are wondering why it’s only the Bukedea MP on the hook and not her Deputy speaker yet they both joined NRM from FDC and rose through the ranks to the pinnacle of authority.

In an article done by this publication, we quoted a post of X formerly twitter made by outgoing Minister of Youths and Children affairs who insinuated presidential ambitions as the source of Anita Among’s problems and even forced out of the Speakership race which she had already campaigned for and would do anything in her means to attain the lucrative office.

Ever since security launched search operations at her residences in Kigo, Nakasero and office at parliament, six luxury cars have been seized alongside many other items like computers, hard cash in different currencies, computers and confidential documents all being pieced together as evidence to formally present her in courts of law to be charged.

She’s accused of illicit wealth creation, misuse of government funds and corruption. At the centre of this storm is an expensive Rolls Royce which she bought from UK and was delivered to her by flight at Entebbe Airport and it costed her a whooping Shs3.7billion which observers now say must have been government. The CDF has since hinted at a possible auction of the Rolls Royce to recover funds which will be returned to the treasury.

Muhoozi’s PLU retracted it’s endorsement for Anita Among and Thomas Tayebwa for re-election as Speaker and Deputy speaker for the 12th parliament. Muhoozi would later endorse West Budama Central MP Jacob Oboth  Oboth for speakership who is now the favorite to be named the NRM candidate ahead of the speakership elections on Monday 25th May.

Ugandans are wondering how such a presidential sanctioned corruption probe meant to weed out corruption in parliament would only target Anita Among and leave her Deputy Thomas Tayebwa without being questioned yet they all ran the same budgets and presided over the same cartels that clothed the 11th parliament into a hub of corruption and deals.

To the surprise of many, Muhoozi via his social media pages again announced that he’s giving Thomas Tayebwa a 2nd chance and is re-endorsing him for Deputy speakership which now raises questions on the probe against Anita Among that it’s not all about corruption but something more what meets the eye with some wondering if the state is planning to use Thomas Tayebwa as a state witness against his former boss if she’s formally charged in courts.

Now Journalist Timoth Kalyegira has also revealed why Thomas Tayebwa has survived the crack down which Museveni has launched on Anita Among which has left her abandoned and deserted by most of her friends and her power and influence shot down in a record one week.

According to Kalyegira, the reason why Tayebwa isn’t facing the same music like Anita Among is that he didn’t show any ambitions beyond Speakership or Deputy Speakership unlike Anita Among who was reportedly eyeing the presidency even when she denied such allegations and had revealed that she’ll be quitting active politics in 2031.
