The Luzira Magistrates court has granted former Ethics Minister Miria Rukoza Koburunga Matembe after spending days missing and sleeping in Luzira prisons for a night when her bail was deferred for today 1st June 2026. Despite her cries infront of Magistrate Atim sheila Gloria who openly told Matembe that despite being sick, she will spend a night in prison.

In a court session parked to capacity mostly with politicians, activists and lawyers, Matembe asked for bail on majorly three conditions, her ill health, advanced age and being a senior citizen with a known address. The magistrate granted her bail even when prosecution vehemently stood against it.

Matembe is facing charges of sectarianism over remarks she made while appearing in an online TV interview where she accused Museveni of letting Ugandans suffer in the hands of his ‘unruly son’. Police also allege that while appearing on DK TV Uganda in Nakawa Uganda in Kampala in June, Matembe a former MP for Mbarara District state that “all our taxes are being spent on Banyankole women ministers”, comments investigators say are likely to hostility or ill will against members of the Banyankole ethnic group.

What started as a raid on her home last week led to her disappearance for days until Muhoozi confirmed he’s holding her before she was presented to court yesterday.
