Nasur Gaddafi has been serving as the NRM youth league chairman since 2015 when he replaced Denis Namara who is now an MP of the east African parliament in Arusha. Gaddafi who earns 21m every month in his capacity as the NRM CEC member, is also the director at the directorate of immigration and citizenship control under the ministry of internal affairs.
At the immigration Gaddafi is feared and respected like a small god because other officials fear he can use CEC to access Museveni and report them in case they don’t treat him well. When it comes to the recent reshuffle, Gaddafi’s supporters were sure their man would very given one of the ministries so that he leaves the youth league politics because the NRM youths now think he is too old to continue being their boss. However, Museveni never considered Gaddafi.
There are many reasons why Museveni can never trust the stinking rich Gaddafi to the point of putting him in his cabinet. First of all Gaddafi is a traitor who fought Museveni very much on the issue of togikwatako and age limit amendment in the year 2017 even when he was already a CEC member.
Joining hands with others like David Kabanda, Anderson Burora, Ibrahim Kitata etc Gaddafi formed a pressure group called KALOC which in full was keep age limits in the constitution. They teamed up with opposition diehards like Odonga Otto, Francis Zzake and caused a lot of havoc and organized youths protests against the lifting of age limits.
They also operated a lot of social media and some of their members would send threatening messages vowing to harm MPs if they voted for life presidency. The KALOC campaign gave Museveni many sleepless nights like the NRM poor youths group of Adam Luzindana and Omodo Omodo had done under Amama Mbabazi’s go-forward pressure group of 2016.
In the end, Museveni met Gaddafi who was facilitated with hundreds of millions to go and de-mobilise KALOC cells but he didn’t. He sat on the money at his home and kept quiet. The other members got so much angry on hearing that the Museveni had released money which never reached them and they became more determined to oppose the lifting of age limits from the constitution. Museveni had to find another money for the other members and he has never forgiven Gaddafi for that 2017 betrayal.
The other factor is that Gaddafi isn’t a kingmaker in any part of the country because even when he is a west niler, he has no influence in Arua which is why he keeps standing for MP sit in Katikamu in Luwero where Baganda can’t elect him because he isn’t one of them.
Even in Bombo, his fellow Nubians don’t like him that much because of his family association with some army officers who were very notorious during Amin time. Gaddafi is one of the CEC members for whom Museveni bought brand new cars at 250m each and yet they betrayed and defied him by insisting to run for MP sits in 2026.
The defiant CEC members resorted to fighting secretary general Todwong and other bosses at Kyandodo after they failed or refused to keep giving them endless money to fight incumbent MPs for 2026. So there is no way the very arrogant Gaddafi can ever be favored that much liked inside Museveni’s state house.
