President Museveni has today been sworn in as president of the republic of Uganda for the 7th elective term after being declared winner of the January 2026 Elections with 71%. The event has taken place at the Kololo Ceremonial grounds graced by several dignitaries and a multitude of NRM supporters.
First sworn on 29th January 1986 at the steps of parliament by the then Chief Justice Peter Allen, Museveni has ruled the country for 4 decades and today’s swearing in start another chapter to push his grip to power to 45 years.
As we wait for speeches at Kololo the biggest highlight so far is the absence of first Lady Janet Kataha Museveni who was absent last night as Museveni hosted heads of state and other distinguished guests at a State Dinner at Speke Resort Munyonyo ahead of today’s swearing in ceremony. He welcomed the guests to Uganda and thanked them for honoring the invitation and continuing to show solidarity with the country.
At Munyonyo last night and today at Kololo, the president was franked by his daughter Natasha Karugire raising questions about the whereabouts of his wife Janet Museveni who is always by his side in such moments. At Kololo as the event started, the Bishop who led the prayers prayed for Janet Kataha’s healing and recovery.
The first lady who is also the Minister for Education and Sports has largely been absent from the public for the last two months ever since reports started spreading that she was ill and was undergoing treatment at a Military facility in the Capital Kampala.
