The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) on Friday confirmed an outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Ituri Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).In a statement, the continental health body said that following consultations with the DRC Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute, preliminary laboratory results from the Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) detected the Ebola virus in 13 of the 20 samples tested.According to the Africa CDC, the results point to a non-Zaire strain of the Ebola virus, although sequencing is still ongoing to fully characterise the variant.…
Construction of the 20,000-capacity Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira City has taken shape, with major activities such as installation of seats, roofing, and painting almost finished. The facility, named after Uganda’s Olympic icon John Akii-Bua, is being built by SAMCO National Construction Company. The stadium will include an eight-lane athletics track, an indoor sports arena, a swimming pool, and a range of modern support facilities. The National Unity Platform (NUP) has started to vet aspirants seeking the party’s endorsement to allow them to contest for the Kalangala District Woman MP seat by-election. The seat fell vacant following the sudden death of former Woman MP, Hellen Nakimuli, who had been reelected to the 12th Parliament. NUP Electoral Commission Chairperson, Harriet Chemutai, revealed that 14 women have so far expressed interest in the seat. West Budama Central MP, Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth, says he is not aware that he has been endorsed by the Chief of Defense Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for the post of Speaker of the 12th Parliament. The Inspectorate of Government(IGG) has announced that 80 percent of public officers required to declare their income, assets, and liabilities complied with the April 2026 declaration exercise, marking an improvement from the previous declaration cycle conducted in 2021. Speaking to journalists at the government-owned media center on Friday, Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, the Inspector General of Government, said that a total of 302,800 public officers were registered on the IG declaration system, while 241,230 successfully submitted their declarations before the April 30 deadline.
