In the news this evening, reports are swirling online indicating that newly elected Masaka City women member of parliament Justine Namere has reportedly been abducted this evening as she was doing a procession following her swearing in at parliament earlier today.

Her abduction comes barely a day after she engaged in a heated exchange with Kasambya legislator Daudi Kabanda over what she referred to as dishonesty after Kabanda’s PLU retracted the endorsement of Bukedea Women MP Anita Among and Thomas Tayebwa for re-election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th parliament respectively.

It’s not clear if her abduction is connected to the online feud or it’s linked to something else following a busy day for Anita Among after reportedly being told not to contest for Speakership and instead give way to West Budama Central legislator Jacob Oboth Oboth.

Her journey to Parliament was already stormy. She won the seat through a controversial court-ordered recount that overturned the Electoral Commission’s initial declaration of NUP’s Rose Nalubowa as winner, a result many in Masaka still view as rigged.

She was abducted in a drone by men holding guns.
