The four decade rule of president Museveni has been and continues to be met with highs and lows. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has been losing support in several regions over the years and also regaining others over the opposition. The Museveni led party is doing the same ahead of the 2026 general elections. This has been witnessed in the results of presidential elections and sometimes parliamentary elections. Last week, the electoral Commission nominated 10 candidates for the 13th March By-election in Kawempe North to replace the fallen National Unity Platform legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya who died on 13th January this year. The Electoral Commission is today 26th and tomorrow 27th nominating candidates for the Kawempe North elections set for 13th March 2025. The race has attracted more than 10 candidates with NRM, FDC, DP, NUP all fronting candidates. Earlier, National Unity Platform candidate Counsel Erias Nalukoola Luyimbaazi faced set backs when his official agent was reportedly abducted with all his nomination papers including payment receipts for his nomination fees. In the news this morning, a man identified as Agaba Benjamin has set himself on fire near the entrance of the Ugandan parliament in Kampala. In videos makings rounds on social media, the man is seen covered in fire and later being helped by police officers and boda boda riders who poured water on him to cool off the fire but sustained serious burn injuries. The judicial system is in crisis with many cases pending and some have taken years to be concluded. There are cases where people have been many years on remand from 3 to 28 years. This is disregarding one of the fundamental principles of justice that justice shall not be delayed, justice delayed is justice denied. The dispensation of justice in our judicial system is very tedious and slow as a snail.
