National Unity Platform (NUP) is releasing Names of it’s flag bearers for local government ahead of the general elections. The names have been released ahead of the nomination process of Local government by Electoral Commission which starts this week. In Kalungu, the NUP flag bearer for LC5 is Nyombi Ahmed Mukiibi who has been the incumbent having clinched the position in 2021. The National Unity Platform has released names of it’s flag bearers for the upcoming general elections. The lists feature flag bearers for Lord Mayor, Division mayors, Lord Councilors and division councilors. Lord Mayor flag bearer is Eng Ronald Balimwezo who has been the MP for Nakawa East. Before joining parliament, Balimwezo was the mayor for Nakawa Division. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo born in 1973 in the Karamoja sub-region has been appointed the Principal Judge becoming the 3rd most powerful woman in the ranks of the Judiciary in Uganda. Until her appointment, she has been the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) since taking on the role in April 2020 replacing Micheal Chibita who joined the Apex bench as a supreme court justice in December 2019. President Museveni has appointed the Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Francis Abodo to a new position as Principal Judge replacing Justice Flavian Zeija who was appointed Deputy Chief Justice two months ago. In other stories this evening, Captain George Mike Mukula has in a surprise move withdrawn from the race of the Vice Chairperson Eastern region. The race had three candidates; Mukula, Calvin Echodu and Namutumba Women MP Mariam Naigaga. After withdrawing, Mukulu endorsed Calvin Echodu who also equally comes from the same sub-region of Teso like him. Speaker Anita Among has dealt the last huge blow to her namesis Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga in a heated contest for National Vice Chairperson Female of NRM in the party’s Centeal Executive Committee.
