President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is seeking the seventh term of leadership was nominated yesterday by the Electoral Commission to run for presidency in the forth-coming elections of 2026. Museveni after nomination briefly addressed journalists before heading to Kololo independence grounds where he unveiled his campaign manifesto under the theme PROTECTING THE GAINS to his supporters who showed up in big numbers. The Electoral Commission yesterday commenced the nomination of Presidential candidates for the forth coming General elections happening on 14th January 2026. Over 200 Ugandans picked nomination papers but only 38 returned the nomination papers with signatures of nominators from atleast 98 districts in Uganda as required by law. The Electoral Commission has confirmed the signatures submitted by National Unity Platform in the last minute rush hour as the party fell short of nomination signatures on Friday last week. Now the Electoral Commission has confirmed Kyagulanyi as an aspirant after meeting the threshold of signatures and has issued him with a certificate. The Commission has also pushed the nomination of National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine to Wednesday 24th at 2pm.
