Kampala Uganda: Continuing its long-standing tradition of supporting religious initiatives of national significance, MTN Uganda has today extended its support to the Catholic Martyrs Day celebrations by contributing Ugx 15,000,000 to the Lugazi Diocese, the lead organizers of this year’s Catholic side of the event.

The symbolic handover ceremony took place this morning at the Lugazi Diocese offices and was received by Msgr Richard Kayondo, the Vicar General of Lugazi Diocese and team leader for the Namugongo celebrations.

As pilgrims make their way to Namugongo for the Martyrs Day celebrations, 500 reflector jackets donated by MTN Uganda will provide crucial road safety.

In a bid to ensure the safety of pilgrims traveling to Namugongo, MTN also donated 500 reflector jackets, which will be distributed to support groups accompanying pilgrims on the road. The gesture demonstrates MTN’s holistic approach to supporting not only the spiritual, but also the logistical and safety aspects of the pilgrimage.

The contribution will go toward supporting the Diocese’s preparations as Uganda commemorates the heroic legacy of the Uganda Martyrs. In addition, MTN has partnered with the Diocese to launch a public fundraising drive via MTN MoMo using the code 702977, enabling well-wishers and the faithful to directly support the celebrations.

Speaking at the handover, Ronald Ddamulira, the MTN Uganda’s Regional business manager for Greater central said:

“At MTN, we believe in the power of unity and faith. Our contribution today reaffirms our commitment to stand with the Catholic community as they organize this important spiritual event. Through the MoMo code 702977, we’re also making it easier for everyone to participate in this year’s celebrations—because Together our Faith is Unstoppable.”

In his remarks, Msgr Richard Kayondo expressed appreciation for MTN’s continued support:

“We are grateful to MTN Uganda for walking with us on this sacred journey. This support will go a long way in helping us prepare for a successful Martyrs Day celebration, and we invite all people of goodwill to contribute through the MoMo code 702977.”

MTN has committed to helping publicize the code across its platforms to drive awareness and increase contributions.

This contribution to Lugazi Diocese forms part of MTN Uganda’s wider commitment to supporting both the Catholic and Anglican commemorations of Martyrs Day. Plans are also underway for a similar contribution to the Northern Anglican Cluster, who will be hosting this year’s Anglican Martyrs Day celebrations.

As Uganda prepares to honor the martyrs, MTN remains committed to fostering faith, unity, and shared purpose across communities.
