Two months ago, Kawempe North voters went to the polls to elect their Member of parliament in by election caused by the death of Muhammed Ssegirinya who died after battling illnesses for a long time.

The by-election was birthed and clothed with bloodshed and violence even on the day of the polls where security pitched camp everywhere with army mambas and tankers seen inside polling stations.

Ultimately, National Unity Platform candidate Erias Nalukoola emerged victorious with over 17,000 votes leaving all the other 9 candidates trailing including NRM’s Faridah Nambi who polled around 9000 votes.

Nambi would later run to court to petition Nalukoola’s win claiming 15 of her stronghold polling stations were not counted denying her such a huge win and chance to represent her people of Kawempe North.

In court, Nambi was shocked when her trusted witnesses took a huge turn and instead testified against her. She blamed Nalukoola for buying off her witnesses and playing dirty games.

Nalukoola’s legal team made an application seeking to re-examine Faridah’s witnesses. However, court has declined this request sighting that the case has not yet been concluded so it’s not possible to grant such an application.
