Last Sunday was exactly two months since the Kawempe North by-elections were held. The campaigns and elections were clothed in violence and human rights violations orchestrated by Security Organs who beat up opposition candidates, their supporters and even the journalists.
The Kawempe North by-election attracted 10 candidates who included NRM’s Faridah Nambi, NUP’s Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, FDC’s Sadati Mukiibi alias Aganaga, DP’s Henry Kasacca Henry Mubiru and PPP’s Musitwa Ismael.
The other candidates included Moses Nsereko and Muhammed Luwemba Luswa who came independent after failing to secure the NUP ticket, Hanifah Karadi who also came independent after failing to secure the NRM ticket, Muhamood Mutazindwa and Edward Stanely Maitum who also came independent after failing to secure the UPC ticket.
After the polls which saw military tankers inside poling stations, electoral commission declared NUP’s Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola followed by NRM’s Faridah Nambi who has since petitioned court to have the process repeated.
Moses Nsereko who dominated the race with jokes and comedy has now launched another front. This time not for Kawempe North but he’s eyeing Museveni’s seat which he has enjoyed for the last four decades. He’s not coming independent but seeking to come for presidency in the General elections on NUP ticket.
His interest in the NUP ticket for presidency brings another major headache to the party’s principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine who has since started regional tours to be endorsed. He was on Monday endorsed by Bugisu region.
In his manifesto, Moses Nsereko says he’ll increase the salary of the policemen, teachers, army, doctors by 50% but will reduce the salary of MPs, Ministers and Directors of government MDAs.
