The momentum for the 2026 general elections gains momentum every other day with new developments in both the ruling side and the opposition side. National Unity Platform has reported renewed abductions of their party members and leaders in the last two weeks.
Notably among these is Bobi Wine’s eldest brother also the Head of mobilization in NUP Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu who was abducted on Monday this week as he returned form the party headquarters where party had held a joint presser calling for Besigye’s immediate release.
A day later, four members of the party’s electoral management committee were taken captive in Mpigi as they returned from a funeral in Masaka. These were reportedly driven to the CMI headquarters in Mbuya but were yesterday dumped at the SIU Kireka and later released without charges proffered to them.
After spending days in unknown detention, Bobi Wine’s eldest brother has also this evening been dumped by men said to be security operatives near his home. Since the renewed abductions, no security organ has come out to deny to own the said activities and no statement has been released so far.
These abductions are just a repeat of the what happened in 2020 and 2021. Several NUP supporters were abducted by men holding guns driving the infamous drone vehicles. Some of these were dumped at some locations, others are still in detention and have never faced trial while others have never been seen since then.
